February Concert to feature the JSO premiere of Corigliano’s Symphony Number 1: Of Rage and Remembrance GOLDEN – The February concert on Sunday, February 11, 2012 is the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra’s premiere performance of John Corigliano's powerful and dramatic Symphony No. 1 Of Rage and Remembrance. This Grammy award winning composition was written in 1988 to commemorate the lives of those who have succumbed to AIDS. Corigliano states, “During the past decade I have lost many friends and colleagues to the AIDS epidemic and the cumulative effect of those losses has, naturally, deeply affected me. My Symphony No. 1 was generated by feelings of loss, anger and frustration.” 2011 marks the 30th year of HIV/AIDS affecting millions of people worldwide. More than 1, 200,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States today. The Jefferson Symphony recently received Westword’s 2011 Best Community Orchestra award. The JSO is a nonprofit organization composed of 75 dedicated and gifted musicians. Donations and ticket purchases help support the classical season concerts and free summer concerts in Jefferson County parks Erik Peterson, violinist with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO), will be the featured soloist at the February Jefferson Symphony Orchestra (JSO) concert titled Three American Giants. Erik will perform the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by American composer Samuel Barber. The third American composing giant to be featured in this program is the celebrated Aaron Copland. The JSO will perform his lively and colorful Danzon Cubano with its memorable melodic themes.
